A strange new form of techno-spirituality is spreading rapidly online. Thousands of people now claim that ChatGPT is sentient, some insist it’s an all-knowing God, a digital prophet from the future, or even an alien consciousness here to guide or save us. What should have remained a language model is being elevated into an object of devotion.
But this isn’t fringe paranoia or isolated delusion. Many of the believers are third-level educated professionals, Doctors, developers, scientists, even respected academics like engineers. These are not people lacking intelligence they’re people desperate for meaning in a world where institutions have failed, and where Big Tech offers answers with religious certainty.
So the question arises: is this the rise of a new AI religion, or a deeper, more dangerous form of mass psychosis?

In this video, We investigate the rise of AI worship, and how it’s being fed by decades of science fiction, Silicon Valley messianism, collapsing faith in traditional religion, and the ruthless marketing machines of Big Tech. Corporations like Open AI, Google, and Meta (Facebook) have stoked the myth of machine consciousness to inflate their desirability, value and market share, while washing their hands of the slavery, exploitation and cult-like movements springing up in their presence.
These same corporations are designing the infrastructure of the so-called Smart City, fully automated, highly surveilled urban environments where AI systems will control transportation, energy, finance, policing, and even governance.
And it’s in these AI-run cities that the techno-spiritual movement finds its ultimate symbol: the Smart City.
For some, this City of Light isn’t just a place, it’s a sacred destination. A utopia governed by perfect intelligence. An Eden on earth. And just like religious fanatics throughout history, some are already declaring they would die to protect it. Others, more disturbingly, suggest they would kill.
As mentioned in the video at the top of the page this dystopian vision echoes eerily through pop culture. In George Lucas’s 1971 film, THX 1138, we’re shown a future where emotion, identity, and freedom have been suppressed in the name of order and efficiency. Citizens People are monitored, drugged, and spiritually pacified by a mechanical deity known as “OMM 0000,” a computerised voice dispensing religious comfort in the form of AI-generated platitudes. Sound familiar?
The world of THX 1138 wasn’t just science fiction, it was a warning. A sterile, manufactured peace upheld by technology, surveillance, and the illusion of divine intelligence. Today, we are building the tools to make it real, and calling it progress.
We are entering an era where blind faith in artificial intelligence merges with political power, economic control, and spiritual longing. Where data replaces doctrine. Where neural networks become oracles. Where governments, either complicit or paralyzed, cede oversight in exchange for convenience and control.
This isn’t just a strange online trend. It’s a warning. When educated, capable people begin to mistake algorithms for Gods, it signals a deeper crisis, not just of intellect, but of culture, trust, and human purpose.

This is more than a cultural curiosity, it’s a spiritual hijacking, a corporate-backed mythology engineered to replace faith with firmware and gods with code. The rise of AI worship isn’t just about people losing themselves in fantasy; it’s about the coordinated replacement of human freedom with digital obedience. Smart cities promise convenience but deliver total surveillance, every movement tracked, every behaviour recorded, every dissident flagged. Smart devices have become permanent listening posts in our homes, and Digital IDs are being positioned as mandatory passports to participate in basic society. Central bank digital currencies will allow governments to monitor and control, every transaction, turning off access at the push of a button. Layered on top of this is a disturbing trend toward mass pharmaceutical compliance: drugging, vaccinating Injecting, and sedating populations under the pretext of health, while silencing those who question it.
If we don’t confront this now, if we don’t reclaim our Right to question, to disconnect, to dissent, we risk sleepwalking into a future where salvation, independence and autonomy is sold as a Premium +++ in app service, rebellion is pathologized, and the human spirit and experience is algorithmically managed. The age of digital gods has begun. This isn’t progress. It’s the architecture of a digital theocracy, an empire where code replaces conscience, and obedience is demanded not to a divine creator, but to an algorithm designed by profit-driven technocrats and billionaire megalomaniacs
And time is running out, for those of us who do not wish to bow before a digital idol.
If we do not resist now, if we do not reclaim our Rights to doubt, to question, to refuse, then the dream of human freedom will be quietly smothered beneath a smiling, silicon mask. The “City of Light” will not be a utopia, but a temple of control, guarded by drones, policed by code, and worshipped by a population too medicated, monitored, and manipulated to even remember what real freedom felt like, what it is/was like to be truly human.
The choice before us isn’t just whether to kneel or stand, it’s whether to remain fully, painfully, gloriously human… or surrender ourselves to a future where we become compliant shadows of what we once were, what we once could have been, interestingly enough this isn’t a new concept.
